Renovations & Additions

Much of Eleanor's residential work has been the careful transformation of existing homes.

Since 2004, a significant portion of Eleanor's practice has focused on renovations and additions in Washington, DC, including Georgetown, Logan Circle, Shepherd Park, and surrounding communities in Virginia and Maryland. These projects demand a particular kind of architectural intelligence: respect for what is already there, imagination for what the house can become, and disciplined coordination through permits, construction documents, interiors, and construction realities.

Logan Circle Rowhouse

Project: Recent renovation / addition
Scope: Urban rowhouse transformation

A renovation and addition in Logan Circle, balancing the constraints of an existing DC rowhouse with a more open, livable, and contemporary rear addition. The work reflects the kind of residential problem Eleanor has returned to throughout her career: preserving the intelligence and character of an older home while making it function beautifully for the way a family lives now.

Shepherd Park Residence

Project: Recent renovation / addition
Scope: Schematic design through permit and construction documents

Eleanor worked from schematic design through permit and construction documentation, helping transform an existing house with a new rear composition, kitchen, dining, and family living spaces. The project shows the practical craft of renovation: making new work feel clear and intentional while improving daylight, circulation, storage, and everyday use.

Arts & Crafts Treehouse

Dunmore Lane NW

Project: Built circa 2015
Scope: 5,000+ SF new residence

Eleanor worked on the project from schematic design through construction, preparing schematic plans, design development drawings, the permit set, the construction set, and the interior package. Her role included substantial drawing production, coordination, client interaction, weekly construction meetings, and collaboration with the interior designer and project manager.

Dunmore Lane Residences

Project: Built circa 2009
Scope: 7,000+ SF new residence

Eleanor contributed to schematic design, design development, permit documentation, and portions of the interiors. The project continued through later construction documentation and construction phases while she was on maternity leave, with the broader project team carrying the work forward.
